Drive America’s Highways for 25 scenic miles west along the Western Kentucky Parkway as we travel from Elizabethtown to Clarkson in central Kentucky. Our journey begins at the eastern terminus of the parkway where it meets Interstate 65 in Elizabethtown—one of the region’s major transportation hubs. From here, the parkway heads generally southwest, offering drivers a swift and scenic route through the rolling countryside of Hardin and Grayson counties.
As we leave Elizabethtown behind, the parkway quickly transitions from suburban sprawl to pastoral landscapes. The route cuts through gently undulating terrain dotted with farms, woodlands, and the occasional roadside relic from Kentucky’s mid-century highway history. One of the notable communities along the route is White Mills, a small unincorporated area nestled near the Nolin River. While not directly accessed from the parkway itself, White Mills offers a nearby detour for those interested in kayaking, fishing, or exploring the Nolin River’s calm stretches. The route is relatively free of heavy congestion, making it a preferred option for motorists traveling toward western Kentucky or simply seeking a peaceful drive.
We end the video a bit early due to rain near the Clarkson interchange at KY-224, just east of Leitchfield. This point marks a good stopping place if you’re planning to visit Nolin Lake State Park, which lies just to the south and is a popular spot for camping, boating, and hiking. For those continuing west, the parkway eventually connects with I-165 (formerly the William H. Natcher Parkway) and heads toward Beaver Dam and beyond. Whether you’re heading out for a lakeside weekend or using the parkway as a quieter alternative to I-64 or US-62, this stretch offers a smooth, relaxing ride through the heart of Kentucky.
