Scenic Arkansas Highway 7: Jasper to Harrison

Join us as we drive 20 miles north along one of Arkansas’s most picturesque byways — Scenic Highway 7 — from the rustic mountain town of Jasper to the vibrant community of Harrison. We begin our journey in downtown Jasper, turning onto Court Street from Stone Street, right in the heart of town. Almost immediately, we meet the junction with AR-74 east before gliding over the Little Buffalo River, where AR-74 west branches off. From there, we leave Jasper behind, climbing northeast into the rolling hills and switchbacks that make Scenic Highway 7 so beloved by travelers and locals alike.

As we twist our way up the mountains, the views become a highlight in themselves — forested slopes, rugged ridgelines, and peeks of the Buffalo National River valley below. After a few miles of winding ascent and descent, we drop down toward the tiny settlement of Pruitt, where the road crosses the Buffalo National River itself — a perfect spot to pull over and soak in some fresh Ozark air. This stretch is especially popular among motorcyclists and sightseers looking for a dose of Arkansas wilderness without straying too far from the pavement.

North of Pruitt, Scenic Highway 7 hugs the curves of Mill Creek, threading through serene mountain hollows and tight curves that beg to be driven slowly. One notable landmark along this segment is the long-closed Dogpatch USA amusement park, a quirky slice of Arkansas history that once drew crowds but now sits quietly hidden by trees near the HUB motorcycle resort. Beyond these hidden treasures, the road gradually straightens out as we near civilization once again. Crossing AR-206, we roll past scattered homes and farms before descending into Harrison’s southern edge. Just past the junction with AR-43, the highway swings left, transforming into Pine Street, which brings us straight into the heart of Harrison. We end our journey at the intersection with U.S. Highway 65, right where the small-town energy meets the flow of regional traffic — a fitting end to this stretch of Arkansas’s most scenic drive.
