Taney County Highway 165: Hollister – Missouri

Join us for a short but scenic drive through the heart of the Missouri Ozarks as we cruise 4 miles west along Taney County Highway 165, just south of Branson. This stretch might be brief in mileage, but it offers some classic Ozark beauty—and even a picture-perfect overlook spot along the way.

We begin this journey at the intersection with U.S. 65 Business, just outside of Hollister, Missouri. The route transitions smoothly onto County Road 165, curving south for a brief moment before we swing right onto Freeman Lane to remain on the signed CR-165 alignment. From here, the road bends westward and begins to wrap around the southern edge of Branson. You’ll notice the transition from the outskirts of town into a quieter, more rural setting—one that’s common in this part of Taney County, where city meets country in just a few short miles.

About halfway through our journey, we reach the Branson Scenic Overlook, perched above Table Rock Lake. This pull-off area offers a sweeping view of the dam, the lake, and the forested hills beyond. It’s a popular spot for quick photos or to simply take in the landscape, especially in fall when the Ozarks burst into color. Even if you’re not stopping, the overlook marks a highlight worth noting for any drive in this region.

Continuing westward, Taney County 165 meanders gently downhill, surrounded by wooded terrain and occasional glimpses of residential developments tucked into the hills. The ride is smooth, with light curves and a steady flow as we approach the junction with Missouri Route 265. Here, CR-165 officially ends and the drive continues west as MO-265, offering options to connect with Table Rock State Park, Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, or loop back toward Branson’s entertainment core.

Although short, this stretch of CR-165 functions as a scenic connector between Branson and the surrounding natural areas. It’s also part of a loop often used by travelers heading to Table Rock Lake, Showboat Branson Belle, or Dewey Short Visitor Center—making it more than just a backroad: it’s a gateway to adventure in the Ozarks.
